Statement of Endorsement 2010

Premier of Western Australia
Statement of Endorsement for the
Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference 2010
Perth’s growing status as the petroleum industry focus for the Asia Pacific region is underlined by the decision to stage the Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference on an annual basis after more than 25 years of successful biennial conferences in Western Australia.
I encourage your participation in this major industry gathering, which last year attracted more than 360 exhibitors, a similar number of delegates and almost 7,000 visitors. In 2008, the State petroleum industry grew in value by 33 per cent to $22.3 billion, accounting for 71 per cent of gas and 66 per cent of oil and condensate production nationally.
Also in 2008, expenditure on petroleum exploration in Western Australia grew by 29 per cent to $2.5 billion, accounting for 73 per cent of the national total.
Last year also, the $2.6 billion Phase V expansion of the North West Shelf Joint Venture’s LNG facility at Karratha was commissioned, boosting capacity by more than 30 per cent, to 16.3 million tonnes per year (Mtpa).
This year Woodside is developing it’s $12billion Pluto LNG project, with a forecast production capacity of 4.3 Mtpa, for completion in late 2010.
In addition, Chevron Australia is close to a decision on its massive Gorgon Project, which will see the construction of a further three 5 Mtpa LNG processing trains.
The Western Australian Government is developing an LNG Processing Precinct in the Kimberley region to accommodate processing of gas from the offshore Browse Basin, with a planned capacity of up to 50 Mtpa.
Western Australia offers world-class opportunities in petroleum exploration and production potential in both offshore and onshore basins, and in servicing exploration, development and production.
More than 100 Australian and international companies have interests in the onshore and offshore exploration and production areas of the State and many hundreds more are directly involved in servicing and supplying this massive industry.
Increasingly, Perth is the preferred location for businesses providing engineering, geosciences, research and supply support for petroleum explorers and producers in Australia and the Indo Pacific region.
Servicing the petroleum sector is a key role of the Australian Marine Complex, a major industrial area just south of Perth and home to 120 organisations providing training, engineering, research and manufacturing support to the resources, marine, shipbuilding and defense industries.
More than 200 projects have used its Common User Facility for projects which has included construction of platforms, jackets and specialised vessels for offshore exploration and production as well as maintenance and repair work for the oil and gas sector.
This year a $174 million expansion of the facility, which includes construction of a floating dock, will be completed and operational.
In addition, a new $35 million service and supply base is being developed to support offshore oil & gas projects with a service wharf to accommodate roll-on/roll-off vessels and a 4.4ha staging area.
Your company is invited to be part of Western Australia’s ongoing success as part of Australasia’s oil & gas industry.
At the Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference 2010 you will join petroleum producers and service companies from countries across Asia including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand as well as those from Canada, Germany, Norway, the USA and the United Kingdom.
